Short Description | Explore the facets of Role Playing Games that allow for them to effect our lives even when we are just playing for fun. |
Long Description | From use in therapy to strengthening arithmetic and communication skills, RPGs have begun to be used to improve lives and help people grow. Why is that? We explore a theory that brings together studies of fantasy literature with the well social science of Rites of Passage. Combining disparate theories of J.R.R. Tolkien and ethnographer Arnold van Gennep, we find Role Playing Games to be skirting between the two that brings magic into our lives to make us better. |
